Our TechnologyEmbedded in the leggings, there will be IMUs (Inertial Navigation Units) which will be responsible for sensing the movement of the body. Haptic feedback motors will be placed at key areas to determine the user feedback. These electronics will be wired in such a way so that the legging is able to be machine-washed.
The GAINS computation module will come in the form of an electronic block which will be placed in the lower waist of the high-waisted legging. This module will process the readings and send the readings over through Bluetooth to a central server. The server will do complex computations to determine the current state of the user. It will pinpoint key mistakes in the user's movement and signal the haptic motors to trigger in order to fix the mistake in real-time. The GAINS project is aimed to help its users perfect squat form. Future work would allow for extension of this technology to other exercises, as well. |
How will we track mistakes? The GAINS project reconstructs a kinematic model of the user's body frame using standard anthropometric measurements and inertial readings of the suit's many sensors. By determining the state of the exercise the user is in, the system will be able to search for the signals which indicate improper form.
Each mistake in each stage of the squat can be reduced to a mathematical model which would in turn trigger a set of haptics to produce intuitive feedback for the user to follow in order to correct their exercise form. |
